Detroit—The Detroit Building Authority (DBA) Board unanimously decided to appoint Tyrone Clifton as director, after he was nominated for the position by Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. Clifton will take over from David Manardo, who has also been serving as group executive of operations for the City of Detroit.

Clifton, 48, has been with the DBA for 14 years and, most recently, held the position of senior construction projects manager. In his new role, he will be coordinating Detroit’s blight removal program, which is the biggest in the country.

He will continue to supervise all construction activities in the city, including upcoming projects such as the Department of Public Works Street Maintenance Facility, Real Time Crime Center and the new 8th Precinct. “I am honored for the opportunity to serve as director of the DBA. As a Detroiter, I’m proud to continue to build first class facilities for Detroit’s employees and work to remove blight from our neighborhoods,” Clifton said in prepared remarks.

Tyrone Clifton’s portfolio includes overseeing the construction of the $55 million Detroit Public Safety Headquarters, and building and renovating recreation centers, police precincts and fire stations throughout Detroit. “He has the experience and the leadership skills to do a great job running the Building Authority,” said Mike Duggan.

Detroit is currently running the biggest blight removal program nationwide, which led to the demolition of 8,800 degraded homes in the last two years.
