New York—Jan Berman, president of MechoSystems, has been elected to the Board of Directors of Green Light New York (GLNY). His nomination was unanimously approved.

GLNY is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes energy and lighting efficiency. It identifies barriers to the widespread adoption of existing technologies, fosters relationships, and helps share best practices among members of the greater New York City design, construction and real-estate communities.

In 2012, the organization released its “Let There Be Daylight” report, which calls for advanced daylighting systems to become a standard feature of New York City office spaces. The report states that buildings can drastically reduce overall energy consumption by harvesting natural daylight and relying less on electric lighting.

Berman is the president and chief operating officer of MechoSystems, the leading manufacturer of solar shading worldwide. He brings to the GLNY Board more than 30 years’ experience as a daylighting advocate, as well as a vast network of relationships within the sustainable-design community.
