U-Haul Breaks Ground on Pennsylvania Self Storage Project

The 1,295-unit property is scheduled for completion in 2025.

U-Haul is planning to expand its Harrisburg portfolio with a new self storage facility in Manheim, Pa. The company broke ground on U-Haul Moving & Storage Lancaster on March 7. The project is set for completion in 2025.

Plans call for a three-story building that will feature 1,295 indoor climate-controlled units, as well as a separate warehouse for portable moving containers. On-site amenities will include boxes and moving supplies, access to truck and trailer sharing services, remote access, an enclosed area for loading and unloading and security services, among other features.

Located at 1985 State Road, the site is near U.S. Route 283, less than 7 miles from Lancaster. The property is also close to the recently constructed Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center, in an area that is seeing an increase in housing projects.

According to Yardi Matrix data, U-Haul has five additional self storage facilities in the Harrisburg market, totaling 344,672 square feet. These include a project that is currently underway in Lebanon, Pa., with completion anticipated for September 2024.

Only last month, U-Haul has announced four self storage projects that are now under development. The company has acquired the construction sites for two facilities in San Antonio and Payson, Ariz., set for delivery in 2026. Other projects include an 80,000-square-foot development in Rapid City, S.D., and a three-story building in Lawrenceville, Ga.
