Sun-Powered Utah Community Raises the Bar
When complete in 2020, Soleil Lofts will incorporate the largest solar-powered battery storage network at a multifamily property in the U.S.
In an innovative project that could set a precedent for multifamily energy management, a new community in Utah’s Salt Lake County will incorporate the most extensive solar-powered storage system of its kind in the nation.
The Wasatch Group is partnering with Rocky Mountain Power to supply Soleil Lofts in Herriman with a solar battery storage system known as a Virtual Power Plant. The project will be the largest fully installed and operational residential battery demand-response solution in the U.S. and could become a model for developing greener buildings.
Located at 3752 W. Suri Rise Lane, Soleil Lofts will consist of 600 units at full buildout. Each apartment will include ecoLinx storage battery manufactured by sonnen Group. Rocky Mountain Power will manage the community’s 12.6 megawatts of storage capacity, which will provide emergency back-up power, daily management of peak energy use and demand response for the management of the electric grid. Also participating is Auric Energy, a Utah-based provider of photovoltaic technology.
Residents will begin moving into the apartments in September and the final building is slated for completion in December 2020.The unit mix at Soleil Lofts includes studios and one- to three-bedroom floorplans ranging from 700 to 1,290 square feet featuring Energy Star appliances, smart home features, panoramic windows, 15-foot ceilings, private balconies/patios and walk-in closets.
The community is committed to a zero-waste program and has 104 electric charging car stations. Additional amenities include two pools—one indoor and an outdoor one, three spas, an outdoor kitchen, an indoor basketball court, community gardens and a dog park.
