Sares-Regis Group’s Huntington Beach Apartments Near Completion

Huntington Beach, Calif.—The mixed-use Boardwalk Huntington Beach, which is being developed by the Sares-Regis Group, is nearing completion. The 12-acre property replaces a defunct furniture warehouse and parking lot with 487 market-rate and affordable apartment units, a public park and 14,500 square feet of commercial space.

Designed by TCA Architects, the property creates a walkable neighborhood that fulfills the City of Huntington Beach’s plan to connect several parts of the area surrounding its developing Bella Terra Town Center. The first housing development for the area, Residences at Bella Terra, was completed earlier this decade and is now leasing it 467 units.

According to TCA, the project team worked with the city and the newly adopted Beach Edinger Corridors Specific Plan to introduce the New Urbanist-style plan to the infill site. Among other features, the tower at the center of the project acts as a focal point for the neighborhood. Inside, the tower houses the property’s recreational facilities and a three-story lobby illuminated by blue light through the glass wrap.

Walkability is a key consideration in New Urbanism. As a whole, Bella Terra scores a 78—Very Walkable—from Walk Score.

A meandering neighborhood street lined with stoops and porches bisects the site, connecting GoldenWest Community College and the GoldenWest Transit Center to the north with Bella Terra to the south. Two amenity buildings line the street and demarcate the property’s main entry and retail plaza off Edinger Ave.
