Does your outfit eat and leave no crumbs even though you just wore it for the aesthetic? Or is it cheugy but still a beige flag? Is it cringe that I am talking like this, or does it mean I have rizz?

Kids today have their own language. (Not like us, who were so phat and were also all that and a bag of chips.)

And they also have their own idea of fun activities. Trust me—I have seen my daughters’ eyes glaze over when I suggested that they hang out with us at a vineyard while my husband and I go wine tasting. And they roll their eyes when we drive around fancy neighborhoods and pick out which houses we would buy if we were rich. They’ve even looked bored when we’ve gone into antique shops. Can you even imagine? Bored at an antique shop?

So, if your apartment community has a lot of kids and teens, you might want to incorporate some special events that will appeal to them. Afterall, they might not pay rent themselves, but their parents do. And you know how they say, “happy wife, happy life”? Well, here it’s “happy kids, parents will hopefully renew that lease, plus you can share on social channels and attract even more residents.” (I never said it was a catchy saying.)

Here are some new and on-trend event ideas you can host at your apartment community that will appeal to the young and young at heart.

KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along Screening: Have you seen this Netflix movie about a K-pop girl group who, uh, hunts demons yet? (It’s not one of those ironic titles.) It’s currently the most popular Netflix film of all time, with more than 3 billion streams so far. And it’s super popular with kids right now. (My 9 year old is already planning which of the singers she’s going to be for Halloween. Currently she’s leaning toward Mira.) The soundtrack is on top of the Billboard charts, and, though I hate to admit it, the songs are really, really catchy. Lean into the popularity and host a sing-along viewing at your community. Everyone will have a blast!

Karaoke: Speaking of sing alongs, a karaoke party is a fun event. Stack the playlist with kid-approved artists, such as Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter and of course Taylor Swift.

Bag Charm Making: Keychains (or bag charms, if you’re nasty) are everywhere now. Women have them on their purses, and kids are using them to decorate their backpacks and even their water bottles. No need to stockpile Labubus for the kids to trade. (You don’t want a riot on your hands. Though, honestly, I don’t get the fuss. They’re certainly no Princess Diana Beanie Baby.) You can set up beads, charms and different color lanyard and string, and have your residents create their own bag charms.

Soccer Clinic: The World Cup is coming to the US in 2026! Get your young renters in the spirit by hosting a soccer clinic. The kids can sharpen their soccer skills while also getting all their energy out outside instead of running around in the apartments, which would be good for them and the downstairs neighbors. You can hire a coach, or even go to the local high school or college to find someone to lead the session—maybe one of your residents would even volunteer. Orange slices for everyone!

Slime Making: It’s gross, it’s messy and it can be used to make fart noises. Slime is awesome. Also, it’s super easy to make, and your residents can customize their own. The ingredients are typical house-hold items that aren’t too expensive, such as shaving cream and baking soda. (There are many slime recipes online.) You can have different food coloring, beads and glitter out as well.

Water Bottle Decorating: Not to sound like an old man that yells at clouds, but back in my day, hydration was not really something we thought about. Now, of course, water bottles are ubiquitous. Stanley, Owala, Yeti, whatever your poison, you’re carrying something around. Why not get some stickers, or even blank stickers that the kids can color, so they can customize their water bottles. You can also combine this with bag charm making, so your young renters can make keychains to attach to their water bottles.
