She got into real estate by accident, but worked her way up to the executive suite. Lela Cirjakovic is now on Waterton’s leadership and investment committees, heading the company’s property management division. As an executive vice president of operations, she oversees a multifamily portfolio of roughly 50 multifamily assets throughout the U.S.

During the past year, Cirjakovic has gained a lot of experience by carefully listening to both her associates and residents. She feels optimistic about the state of the multifamily industry because more data and information can now guide operators’ decisions. “The industry is working hard to attract new, untapped talent and that, along with leveraging technology, will help us solve so many of our problems,” Cirjakovic told Senior Associate Editor Laura Calugar in the latest episode of our Mission Success: Women in Multifamily podcast series.
