David Baker Architects Announces New Principals

San Francisco—David Baker Architects (DBA) has promoted Amanda Loper and Amit C. Price Patel to principals, announced David Baker, FAIA, principal.

Amanda Loper, AIA LEED AP, joined DBA in 2006. Her projects with DBA include affordable housing, such as Station Center Family Housing in Union City and Tassafaronga Village in Oakland, and commercial projects and market-rate housing, such as Saint Frank Coffee and Rincon Green in San Francisco. Currently, she is consulting for the City of San Francisco to craft a density bonus program and designing Hunters View Block 10 in San Francisco. Amanda’s awards include first place prizes in the Re:Vision Dallas competition and the International Urban Competition for the Miami Civic Center. She is on the board of the San Francisco Housing Action Coalition and chair of the project review committee. She is also a frequent presenter at SPUR. She received her bachelor in architecture and bachelor of interior architecture degrees from Auburn University and is an alumna of the Rural Studio there.

Amit C. Price Patel, AIA, LEED AP, joined David Baker Architects in 2005. His projects with DBA include affordable housing, such as Bayview Hill Gardens and Drs. Julian and Raye Richardson Apartments in San Francisco, as well as marketrate housing, such as 888 Seventh Street, also in San Francisco. Currently, he is working on design guidelines for Forest City’s Pier 70 development and the Dr. DAVID BAKER PROMOTIONS/2 George Davis Senior Building, affordable rental apartments for seniors in San Francisco. Recipient of the Branner Travelling Fellowship, Amit has researched high-rise social housing and urban design in Brazil, Europe, and Asia. He has won or been on the winning teams of several international design competitions, including the Red Location Apartheid Museum in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He has been a design resource team member for the Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute in Chicago and for the Mayors’ Institute on City Design in New Orleans and has served as president of Architects/Designers/Planners for Social Responsibility. Amit guides the firm’s urban design studio, which is involved with the re-envisioning of San Francisco’s Pier 70 and is working on preliminary master plans for mixed-use, mixed-income communities in Greenville, South Carolina, and Asheville, North Carolina.

Amit received his master of architecture and master of city planning degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor of arts in architecture from Washington University, St. Louis.
