Corvias Group Appoints Deputy General Counsel

The new deputy general counsel will provide legal support to Corvias Campus Living and Corvias Solutions.

East Greenwich, R.I.—Corvias Group announced that James Kennedy has been hired as deputy general counsel. Kennedy will provide legal support to both Corvias Campus Living and Corvias Solutions on business development, deal structuring, transactions and operations. He will report directly to Bill Culton, general counsel of Corvias Group.

Kennedy comes to Corvias from Cozen & O’Connor where he was a member of the firm’s real estate practice group and the leader of the firm’s higher education industry team. While at Cozen, he counseled cross-functional teams on major transactions for universities, including several student housing projects. Prior to Cozen, Kennedy was senior vice president and general counsel at GMH Associates, Inc. In this position, he was responsible for all legal matters including new business development. While an Associate General Counsel at GMH Communities Trust, he was involved with the development of numerous student housing and military housing projects.

Kennedy is a member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Philadelphia Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association and Urban Land Institute.

Kennedy has been honored with many professional awards, including the Philadelphia Business Journal‘s 40 Under 40 in 2012 and Main Line Today Top Lawyers 2012 (for business law and real estate). He has also been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star eight times since 2005, and earned a spot on the National Register’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals and Madison’s Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals.

Kennedy, who also proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps, is a graduate of West Chester University and Villanova University School of Law. He currently resides in Springfield, Pa., with his wife and four children.
