Sometimes with apartments you luck out with features and amenities, and get a pretty cool place. But don’t you ever wish you could cherry pick every item? TV and movies have some of the coolest and most interesting ideas about what would make a perfect living space (and have some pretty awesome apartments as a whole). Imagine how cool it would be if you could take some of these elements for your own apartment, like a Fantasy Football team for building and decorating, to get your dream place!
Here is a list of the best things from pop culture that would make an awesome apartment when combined (or, as I like to call it, “Frankenstein-ed,” or for the literarily correct among you, “Dr. Frankenstein’s monster-ed’) together.
Closet from Clueless. In the 1995 movie Clueless, the main character, Cher, has a closet that hat all her clothes on a motor, sort of like how a dry cleaner is set up, so that all the pieces could travel around and come into view. The best part, though, was a computer that catalogued all the clothing and allowed Cher to mix and match pieces on screen so she could select the best outfit. Perfect for modern day apartments, allowing busy career people to keep neat and organized, as well as helping people avoid being tardy for work because it eliminates the “I have nothing to wear” curse.
Bookcases from Beauty and the Beast. In Beauty and the Beast, the beast gives book lover Belle a humongous library. Books as far as the eyes could see. Now, I know that e-readers are all the rage now. But there’s just something so romantic about a room full of bookcases, stacked with all the classics. Even better if those books could sing and dance.
Chairs from The Voice. In the current singing competition TV show The Voice, in the first round, the judges, who include Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, all are in these spinning chairs so they can’t see the contest at first. (If you haven’t seen the show, picture Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld—or Austin Powers’ villain Dr. Evil—spinning around in his chair. Except these chairs are motorized. And red. And totally awesome.) How much fun would it be to spin around in that chair every time the pizza guy came to the door? Bonus if Adam Levine came with the chair.
Liquor cabinets from Mad Men. OK, true confession time: I don’t watch Mad Men. I tried getting through the first season, but even Don Draper’s handsome face couldn’t make it interesting for me. So I don’t know for sure if there are liquor cabinets in Mad Men. But I assume there are. Anyway, everyone should be able to come home from a long day of work to their apartments and be able to sip a dry martini, right?
Wallpaper from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I know, I know, wallpaper is kind of “out” right now, and more people are painting their walls. But I think that would change if your strawberry wallpaper tasted like strawberries and the snozzberries tasted like snozzberries.
Ceiling from that Lionel Richie music video. Because, every now and then, we should all have the opportunity to dance on the ceiling.
