Fort Lauderdale, Fla.— Elan 16Forty, a luxury apartment community in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., developed by Greystar, has earned green building certification by the Florida Green Building Coalition.

The building successfully met the sustainability standards established by the FGBC for Green High-Rise Residential Building and the designation represents achievements in a number of categories such as energy efficiency, water conservation, site preservation, indoor air quality, materials and durability.

“The advantages of green building are abundant and when a green design is implemented it lessens the overall impact to the environment,” Gary Wallace, Greystar’s managing director of development, told MHN. “Many residents are very conscientious regarding sustainability and are looking for green building design. We find that most residents appreciate energy and water conservation and the ability to recycle.”

The community includes a variety of eco-friendly features, including water efficient fixtures, energy-efficient lighting, low VOC paint and stormwater management. To improve water conservation, the community also incorporated drought tolerant plants and uses irrigation technology to help eliminate unnecessary watering.

The 261-unit apartment community offers one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans ranging in size from 686 to 1,599 square feet. Interior finishes include stainless steel appliances, oversized kitchen islands with European cabinetry, granite countertops with under-mount sinks, pendant lighting and bamboo flooring in living areas. Apartment homes feature nine to 11 foot ceilings, spacious walk-in closets and large balconies.

Elan 16Forty also offers top of the market common area amenities, including a 6,000-square-foot fitness center containing an aerobics room, spin room, and men’s and women’s locker rooms with both sauna and steam rooms as well as a large well-appointed clubroom for entertainment adjacent to the resort style pool, spa, outdoor kitchens and cabanas.

Additionally, located on the top floor with a panoramic view of downtown, is a sky lounge with an outdoor terrace for entertaining and enjoying sporting events on the big screen TV.

The community also includes a dog park, recycling centers, bicycle storage and covered parking.

Located at 1640 East Sunrise Boulevard just west of Federal Highway in Victoria Park, Elan 16Forty is close to public transportation and provides convenient access to North Federal Highway and I-95 as well as nearby shopping, dining and entertainment venues.

“The property has a very desirable location within five minutes of Holiday Park, the beach and the downtown area, which provide ample outdoor entertainment and retail/restaurant choices close at hand, including the Las Olas district and Galleria Mall,” Wallace said.
