M&R Development and Globe Corporation feted the grand opening of the first new upscale rental community built in downtown Wilmette, Ill., in more than 10 years.
Located at 617 Green Bay Road in Wilmette, a near north suburb of Chicago, The Residences of Wilmette is located one block from the Wilmette Metra Station. Metra’s Union Pacific North Line can transport commuters from downtown Wilmette to Ogilvie Transportation Center on the west side of Chicago’s Loop in as little as 22 minutes.
“We’ve been in business a long time, and we found the one place you could never get any rental apartments built was in any of the North Shore suburbs,” M&R Development managing partner Anthony Rossi Sr. told Multi-Housing News. “You look at the rental stock in any of these suburbs, and it’s 40 years old.”
But over time, he added, North Shore suburban officials have come to recognize they must include apartment communities in downtown redevelopment initiatives. “So you now have a fair amount of new development in places like downtown Deerfield and Glenview. This is right smack dab across from the train station. It’s a good long-term site . . . We call it our legacy deal. We have no intention of selling it.”
Upscale amenities
The Residences of Wilmette offers an array of convertible, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Among unit features and finishes are 9.5-foot ceilings, in-unit washer/dryers, engineered hardwood floors, modern kitchens with textured cabinets, quartz countertops, Grohe plumbing fixtures and stainless steel Bosch appliances.
Bathrooms feature porcelain tile floors, color-transitioning wall tile in tubs and shower surrounds, lighted mirrors and European wall-hung vanities with vessel sinks. Most homes offer private patios or balconies. Built-in desks, built-in bookcases with storage, and walk-in closets are among upscale extras offered in select apartment floor plans.
Currently available residences include two three-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouses on the fifth floor, each with a private rooftop patio.
Highlighting the resort-style amenity package at The Residences of Wilmette is a steam room with color therapy technology, sauna and hot tub. Residents can relax in the spa, or entertain small groups in the resident club room.
The fully equipped business center offers a private conference room for remote workers, 24-hour secured access, dry cleaning and laundry services, complimentary bike sharing and bike storage, storage lockers, reserved garage spaces and available car charging. Four-legged residents enjoy a pet spa with grooming station and bath.
Prime location
Among the greatest selling points of The Residences of Wilmette is its central location. In addition to being steps from the Metra station, the apartment community is just around the corner from the Wilmette Public Library and the Wilmette Post Office. A variety of retail stores line Wilmette Avenue and Green Bay Road. More than a dozen eateries in a variety of price ranges are situated within a short stroll of the property.
