U-Haul Opens Orlando Self Storage Facility

The company acquired the 664-unit property, which is in its final stages of development.

U-Haul has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of a 101,714-square-foot self storage facility in Orlando, Fla. Summit Construction Group sold the asset for $12.8 million, Yardi Matrix data shows.

U-Haul purchased the property in its final stages of development. The project became subject to a $10 million construction loan in 2023, according to the same source. CLI Capital provided the financing, which has a 2025 maturity date.

The three-story building offers 664 climate-controlled units, ranging between 25 and 250 square feet, as well as 22 drive-up units. Amenities include video surveillance, drive-in spaces for covered loan/unload, access to moving trucks, boxes and moving supplies, contactless renting and on-site management.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of South Goldenrod took shape on 2.1 acres at 3830 S. Goldenrod Road and has nearby access to U.S Route 551. Downtown Orlando is less than 10 miles northwest of the location. The facility is one of the 14 available within a 3-mile radius, offering residents 10.8 rentable square feet of self storage space per capita.

According to Yardi Matrix data, Orlando has 2.1 million square feet of self storage space under construction as of May, and some 4.9 million square feet of projects in the planned and prospective phases. U-Haul’s Orlando self storage portfolio includes 35 properties, bringing the company’s total footprint in the market to 2.2 million square feet.

U-Haul’s recent deals include the acquisition of its first self storage facility in Webster, N.Y. The 84,120-square-foot property came online in 2022 and encompasses 640 non-climate and climate-controlled units.
