The Habitat Co. Takes Charge of Chicago Affordable Housing Portfolio

The Habitat Co. has taken over management of 18 affordable housing communities owned by the Chicago Housing Authority, adding 4,479 rental units to the company’s portfolio. The properties are spread across the Windy City’s West and South sides.

The firm’s affordable housing division, the Habitat Affordable Group, now operates more than 12,000 units across Illinois, Indiana and Missouri. Kimberly Sisney, who recently joined as vice president of the division, said in a prepared statement that the company has doubled its support staff at the Chicago regional office to handle the additional properties.

The communities include:

• Long Life at 344 W. 28^th Place (116 units)
• Patrick Sullivan Apartments at 1633 W. Madison St. (482 units)
• Albany Terrace Apartments at 3030 W. 21^st Place (350 units)
• Fannie Emmanuel at 3916 W. Washington Blvd. (181 units)
• Irene McCoy Gaines at 3700 W. Congress Parkway (151 units)
• Lorraine Hansberry at 5670 W. Lake St. (169 units)
• Alfred Barnett Duster at 150 S. Campbell Ave. (129 units)
• Las Americas at 1611 S. Racine Ave. (212 units)
• Armour Square at 3250 S. Wentworth (393 units)
• Elizabeth Davis at 440 N. Drake Ave. (149 units)
• Lincoln Perry Apartments at 3245 S. Prairie Ave. (442 units)
• Mary Jane Richardson-Jones at 4922 S. Langley Ave. (266 units)
• Ada S. Dennison-McKinley at 661 E. 69^th (125 units)
• Kenneth Campbell Apartments at 6360 S. Minerva Ave. (165 units)
• Vivian Carter at 6401 S. Yale Ave. (221 units)
• Minnie Riperton Apartments at 4250 S. Princeton Ave. (335 units)
• Judge Slater Apartments at 4218 S. Cottage Grove Ave. (402 units)
• Major Robert Lawrence Apartments at 655 W.65^th St. (191 units)

The Habitat Co. is the largest private property manager for the Chicago Housing Authority, a municipal nonprofit corporation that currently provides homes to more than 63,000 households. In February, The Habitat Co. announced it had added The Drexel Properties, a 155-unit affordable community in Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood, to its management portfolio.
