Summerville, S.C.—The Beach Company and MWV have formed a joint venture to develop Parks at Nexton, a planned 320-unit apartment community in the 4,500-acre Nexton community in Summerville, S.C.
In a partnership with Home Telecom, Nexton will become the first gigabit community in the state. This speed, 100 times faster than standard Internet, offers unparalleled entertainment through Ultra High Definition IPTV (internet protocol television) and advanced gaming functionality.
“Nexton has taken a major step toward its goal to become the most technologically advanced community in the region,” Ken Seeger, president of MWV Community Development and Land Management, tells MHN. “This means that everyone at Nexton—businesses, schools, medical facilities, libraries, commercial enterprises, and residents—will have access to the fastest, highest capacity Internet service in the state.”
The upscale, contemporary apartments will offer residents the opportunity to choose the space and floor plan that meet their needs, from studio apartments to one-, two- and three-bedroom flats. Resident amenities will include gourmet kitchens, nine-foot to 10-foot ceilings, a commercial-quality fitness center, a business center, courtyard saltwater pool, and automobile garages.
Residents will also enjoy Nexton’s extensive trail and park network, affording the opportunity to walk or bike to work, dining, and shopping. Parks will also be a pet-friendly property.
“With a history of establishing landmark properties and communities since 1945, The Beach Company evaluates each development opportunity for its potential to improve the economic vitality of the region,” Karen Bacot, marketing director at The Beach Company, says. “MeadWestvaco’s vision for Nexton is perfectly aligned with The Beach Company’s mission.”
As the Nexton community builds out over the next 30 years, it will include 10,000 homes, six million square feet of commercial space, several schools and hotels, and 50 miles of bikes and trails. Roughly 2,000 acres of the 4,500-acre campus will remain green space or wetlands. Office space, an elementary school and a hotel are all under construction currently.
“Summerville is known for its quaint, traditional residential neighborhoods. But MWV’s vision for Nexton includes bringing thousands of jobs to the area,” Kent Johnson, The Beach Company’s vice president of development, says. “They recognized an opportunity to create a new and unmatched quality of life by blending residential, industrial, retail and municipal elements into to one unified master plan with neighborhood appeal and advanced technological integration.”
The apartments are expected to be available for occupancy in late 2014.
