TH Real Estate Scores 2017 EPA ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award

The award marks TH Real Estate’s tenth consecutive year as a Partner of the Year, and its eighth consecutive year at the Sustained Excellence level.

TH Real Estate, an affiliate of Nuveen, the investment management arm of TIAA, was named by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a 2017 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award winner for its continuous commitment to outstanding energy management practices and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

The award marks TH Real Estate’s tenth consecutive year (previously awarded as TIAA) as a Partner of the Year, and the eighth consecutive year at the Sustained Excellence level.

“Participating in the EPA’s ENERGY STAR program feeds into our own commitment to reduce the energy intensity of our global 134 million square foot equity portfolio by 30% by the year 2030,” Meghan Johnson, TH Real Estate’s sustainability associate, said in a prepared statement. “We’ve already achieved our proactive internal initiative set in 2007 to reduce US energy consumption 20% by 2020, and continue to be ambitious in our global goals. ENERGY STAR tools and resources are a very important part of the equation for our US portfolio, allowing us to ensure that progress is tracked and best practices are implemented.”

Showcasing TH Real Estate’s sustainability efforts is The Ashton, an 89,000-square-foot community located at 750 Third St. NW Washington, DC. that was acquired by the company in 2015. The building assessment, which included both the common area as well as whole-community data, identified the significant cost savings and energy efficiency opportunities.

“The Ashton’s property management team was able to reduce energy consumption by over 30 percent in just one year,” added Johnson. “Identifying opportunities with new properties allows us to implement improvements to the bottom line and for the environment.”
