See the Future of Downtown Chicago

Many developers wish they could look into a crystal ball and see the future of the markets and neighborhoods they’re considering investing in, but this animation from KIG Analytics comes pretty close to doing just that for select Chicago submarkets. The video, created by KIG Data Analytics Officer Marc Rutzen, tracks the progress of multifamily developments currently under construction or in planning stages.

Each column represents a different submarket, including the Gold Coast/Near North, River North, South Loop, South Streeterville, The Loop/New Eastside and West Loop/River West. The height of each column corresponds to the number of available units, so as units in the developments are leased up, the heights of the columns shrink.

The video was created to ascertain whether new buildings will capture proportional shares of the market’s demand, and as a tool for developers and prospective renters alike.
