Residents Have Leftover Halloween Candy? Here’s What to Do With It
Often after Halloween, there's a lot of extra candy. Don't just throw it in the garbage! Here are some suggestions about what to do with it.
Candy is the best. On Halloween, you get candy. Ergo, Halloween is the best.
But, can there ever be too much of a good thing?
No. No, there really can’t.
But, now that it’s after Halloween, for some reason, some of your residents might want to get rid of some of the candy that they have left over that they bought for trick or treaters or to get rid of some of the candy their kids amassed. Why? Don’t ask me. Maybe I could see it if the extra candy consisted of Smarties and candy corn and fruit-flavored Tootsie Rolls. Maybe. But some people want to give away extra chocolate. Chocolate. I don’t know, man. It’s a crazy world out there.
Anyway, that candy shouldn’t just go in the garbage. Post some signs around the community/make a social media post/email your residents and collect any candy they don’t want. Then there are several things you can do with it.
Keep bowls in the leasing office or front desk. When people are touring the community or are just getting their mail, they can grab some. Candy usually has a pretty long shelf life as well, so it can keep for a while, unlike the coffee and cookies you might typically have.
Use it at community events. You can hand out the candy at movie nights or at parties. Have it as additional toppings for make-your-own sundae events (probably the best type of event, ever). You can even offer it as a prize, depending on the type of function you’re hosting.
Donate it. There are lots of organizations that will send candy to children in need, our troops, or just the community, such as Soldiers’ Angels Treats for Troops or Operation Gratitude.
Send it to me. I’ll give it a good home. I’m always happy to help, especially if it’s Reese’s or Snickers. Little boxes of raisins need not apply, though that probably could have gone without saying.
