Product Spotlight: Mohawk SmartStrand® NANOLOC™ Carpet

Mohawk's formula solves the issues that make renters dread apartments with carpet.

Calhoun, Ga.—When renters see carpets, they see extra maintenance and vacuuming—and for good reason. For decades, carpeting has been notoriously hard to clean and easy to stain. However, today’s innovations have changed that with the introduction of Mohwak Flooring’s SmartStrand technology. The SmartStrand brand, which has long been available to homeowners, is one of the highest-rated carpets for customer satisfaction, due to its built-in stain and soil protection.SmartStrand Forever Clean_Room_3

Now, Mohawk is making this option available to the multifamily market with its introduction of SmartStrand Nanoloc, an iteration of the brand that is specially designed for multifamily properties with an added layer of protection from spills.

“Nanoloc is an advanced spill-resistant shield made from nanoparticles that seamlessly lock together, which prevents dirt and spills from settling into the carpet,” said Tom Lape, president of Mohawk residential. “With SmartStrand Nanoloc, soil is released at three times the rate of other carpets. To say it another way, a consumer would have to vacuum (their) floor three times versus just one time with SmartStrand.”

SmartStrand Forever Clean_Room_2The company, which “considers SmartStrand carpet to be the most successful introduction in its rich 125-year history,” says that the Tritexta fiber from which the SmartStrand is manufactured is the first newly classified fiber to be introduced in more than 50 years, and that SmartStrand is the first bio-based carpet made partially from a rapidly renewable resource. According to Lape, Mohawk has put these claims to the test.

“The success of SmartStrand challenged us even more,” Lape said. “As innovators, we asked ourselves how we can make the best carpet on the market even better. That question led us to SmartStrand Nanoloc, the most durable, easiest to clean carpet on the planet.”
