Bloomfield, N.J.—Fitness centers are a nice addition to many luxury apartment buildings. At Parkway Lofts in Bloomfield, N.J., however, the fitness center is not merely an add-on. It is the crowning jewel of the building’s resort-style amenity package, which offers residents an array of social and health benefits.
To create Parkway Lofts, Prism Capital Partners LLC redeveloped a nearly century-old, six-story warehouse. The building offers 361 upscale apartments and its spectacular, two-level, 5,000-square-foot, fully equipped fitness center.
Rivaling the best of today’s commercial gyms, Parkway Lofts’ well-conceived, state-of-the-art fitness center serves up Life Fitness-brand cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, as well as multiple TVs and changing rooms.
The center is bathed in plentiful natural light that floods through floor-to-ceiling windows. It is open from 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, and serves both occasional exercisers and highly conditioned competitive athletes.
“As we were working on the conversion of this iconic structure, we realized we wanted to enhance the living experience for all residents,” Prism Capital Partners principal partner Edwin Cohen tells MHN. “We felt that in order to attract the parts of the population who are health-conscious, a major fitness center would be a tremendous draw to that group of people. Therefore, we provided this very spacious facility to accommodate both aerobic and anaerobic exercise.”
One of the other hotel-caliber amenities at Parkway Lofts is a 24-7-attended lobby with 100-plus-year-old wood reclaimed from the original building, which General Electric Company built in 1915. The lobby showcases modern glass walls, a fireplace and spectacular fountain. A 20-seat large-screen theater room; private party and billiards room with a 14-foot bar, televisions and tufted banquettes; and a gracious rooftop deck with sprawling sofas, fire pit and abundant comfortable seating round out the building’s top amenities.
Parkway Lofts offers a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom loft-style and duplex residences, with monthly rents beginning in the $1,500s.
The modern-classic apartments offer soaring 17- and 12-foot-high ceilings, exposed columns and beams, custom lighting fixtures, kitchen islands with Quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances and glass-tile backsplashes.
Spa-inspired bathrooms feature custom-stone flooring and porcelain surrounds. Each apartment offers a washer-dryer unit, and residents also have access to commercial-style laundry facilities and storage lockers on each floor.
Convenience is very much part of the Parkway Lofts experience. NJ Transit’s Watsessing Avenue Station stands a mere 1,000 feet from the building. And residents can take advantage of a 24-hour resident-only convenience store stocked with grocery basics, toiletry items and more.
As for Parkway Lofts’ fitness center, what type of renter does it attract? “It draws the health-conscious, fitness-oriented people of all ages,” Cohen reports.
