Queens Condos to Feature Mural
- Nov 10, 2017
Canvas, a new condo development in Long Island City, Queens, has launched sales. The property, which is at 42-83 Hunter St., offers 13 one-bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom penthouse. Lions Group NYC is the developer of the project, which was designed by My Architect PC.
Common amenities include a fitness center, an in-building laundry room and a virtual doorman. Distinctively, the building will also feature artwork curated by local artist Jojo Anavim, capped by a 60-foot-tall, hand-painted mural on the façade of the building.
The work, titled “Don’t Post That,” depicts fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld transformed into an Uncle Sam-like pose, delivering a “Don’t Post That” message. “I wanted to create something that commented on society being less present in reality, and instead living through a screen in a virtual world,” Anavim says.
The mural features a color palate that pays homage to the long-standing artistic landscape in Long Island City, according to Anavim. The artist’s work hangs in various private collections, museums, and hotels, including the Dream Downtown in NYC, the Coca-Cola Archives Museum in Atlanta, the New York Yankees City Seats collection and the Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY.
Prices at Canvas start in the $700,000s and go up to $1.7 million for the top-floor residence. The building is slated for completion by the winter of 2018. Modern Spaces is marketing and selling the property.
