MHN Poll: How much of an impact will the Inflation Reduction Act have on the industry’s sustainability efforts?
In MHN‘s latest monthly poll, readers were asked about the $738 billion Inflation Reduction Act, a sweeping piece of legislation intended to reduce the deficit, lower the cost of prescription medication and shore up domestic energy production through more sustainable means. Specifically, they weighed in on its effects on sustainability efforts and ESG initiatives being undertaken by multifamily owners and operators.

There was an even 27 percent split between those who believed the 2022 law will have a significant impact, a moderate impact or a nonexistent impact on the industry’s sustainability efforts, while the remaining 18 percent see it as having a minimal impact.
The bill includes $391 billion allocated to clean energy production, research and development. Provisions that affect the multifamily side include $1 billion for clean energy sources in affordable housing developments, as well as $27 million for the establishment of a national green bank.
