The Buckingham

Peak Campus has expanded its management portfolio with The Buckingham, a 129-unit, 430-bed student housing facility serving students at the University of Illinois – Chicago. The property, located directly across from Grant Park, is also nearby 20 other schools.

“We love Chicago. The urban campuses and more than 20 colleges in the area provide a diverse student body that we enjoy serving,” Ryan Hand, Peak Campus’ vice president of business development, told Multi-Housing News. “Our connections to many universities have allowed us to build incredible relationships with the universities. From those have come master leases, and other partnership opportunities which drive our success and thus our client’s success.”

Formerly known as Buckingham Plaza, the 44-story property is located at 59 E. Van Buren St. and offers studio, one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom fully furnished units. All units get a premium cable package with more than 50 channels and free Wi-Fi. There’s also an on-site movie theater and a sky lounge boasting views of Lake Michigan.

Expanding in Chi-Town

This is the fifth property managed by Peak Campus in the Chicago market, bringing the company’s footprint to more than 3,200 total beds in the area.

“Now that we manage five properties in the area, we have over 150 employees in the Chicago market and dominate the student housing space in the area,” Hand said. “The central area also makes a great recruiting ground for future rock star employees.”

The South Loop area of downtown Chicago is a bustling core with parks, views, and easy to walk to public transportation. Hand said it’s close enough to find a good meal, head over to jog near the lake and most importantly walk to class.

“The Buckingham offers an unmatched location in the South Loop area, directly across the street from the beautiful Grant Park,” he said. “Other than having all of the fittings for students in the area, the historic property has beautiful views, and a sky lounge that offers peaceful views of Lake Michigan.”

Peak Campus is currently working with the ownership on a capital improvement plan for the 1982-built property.

In February, Peak Campus expanded its management portfolio by adding Meadowbrook Gardens, a 210-bed student housing community in Mansfield, Conn.
