NRP Group Breaks Ground on NY Affordable Housing
The Bethlehem, N.Y., community will offer 72 workforce housing units and supportive services for veterans facing homelessness.
NRP Group has started construction on its latest fully-affordable housing community in New York state. Alongside nonprofit organization Soldier On and New York State Homes and Community Renewal, the developer plans to deliver Selkirk Reserve in August 2025.
The community is being constructed under the nine percent tax credit program and will offer workforce housing units to those earning between 30 to 60 percent of the area median income. NRP Group has tapped RDL Architects and Hershberg & Hershberg Consulting Engineers as part of the project team, while KeyBank provided construction lending and equity.
Selkirk Reserve will have its 72 units split between nine two-story eight-plex buildings with one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans ranging from 702 to 1,207 square feet. The units will feature universal design standards like switches that are placed lower on walls, outlets placed higher, non-slip flooring and lever faucets. The community’s amenities will include a clubhouse with a community room, office area, conference room, activity room and kitchen, while a playground will be available outside. NRP Group will also be working with Soldier On to provide case management and support services for 12 qualified veterans experiencing homelessness.
Located at 939 Route 9W on a more-than 15-acre site, Selkirk Reserve will be approximately 10 miles from downtown Albany and less than three miles from Bethlehem’s main business district.
Adding to New York’s affordable housing stock
Selkirk Reserve represents NRP Group’s second affordable housing project in the Albany, N.Y., area. The developer is also currently working on Reserve at Saratoga Springs, a 202-unit mixed-income community in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., that is expected to be completed in September of this year. NRP Group is also constructing The Renaissance at Lincoln Park, a 179-unit affordable housing community in New Rochelle, N.Y., which is due online later this year. The firm broke ground on that property in December 2020.
The NRP Group is also active in other markets. Earlier this month, the developer opened its 368-unit Station42 mixed-income community in Killeen, Texas. The company’s existing portfolio includes more than 26,500 affordable and 6,800 mixed-income units across the U.S., with plans to expand into Arizona, Nevada and Colorado.
