Baton Rouge, La.Stirling Properties was selected as the retail developer and leasing broker of the Nicholson Gateway development project in Baton Rouge. The company will also be responsible for the on-going retail property management. Stirling will cooperate with Georgia-based RISE, a company specializing in student housing.

“Stirling Properties is proud to be involved on the development team of Nicholson Gateway. This mixed-use project will not only enhance the LSU campus, but will provide an activity hub for students and visitors. In addition, this growth is creating much needed on-campus student housing, new job opportunities and economic development for the area,” Townsend Underhill, senior vice president of Development Stirling Properties, said in prepared remarks.

Located in the northwest corner of Nicholson Drive and Skip Bertman Drive across from Tiger Stadium, the development will include a 1,700-bed student housing and athletic dormitory with study areas and green spaces. The first phase of the project is a 28-acre site between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive. In addition, Nicholson Gateway will feature 50,000 square feet of university-focused retail space. The development is expected to be a mix of primarily student residential space with student-centric retail, solving in this way the housing problem of the area by attracting and retaining students and accommodating the growing population.

The property is slated for completion in the fall of 2018, falling in line with the beginning of the academic year.
