NEXT Apartments Top Off in Chicago
Construction on the property started in June 2015, with an original projected completion date of early 2017.
Chicago—Fifield Cos. has topped off NEXT Apartments, the developer’s 28-story, 310-unit rental tower in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, just north of downtown. Construction on the property started in June 2015, with an original projected completion date of early 2017.
Due to favorable conditions, however, crews were able to make faster-than-scheduled progress on the tower, with first move-ins now scheduled for September 1. According to the development, the brisk pace of construction helped offset a protracted approval process for the development, one of the first high-rise apartment buildings to be built on land that was once zoned as a manufacturing district.
Upon completion, NEXT will offer studio, one- and two-bedroom units, as well as two- and three-bedroom penthouses. Units will range in size from 426 square feet to 1,727 square feet, with rents from $1,595 to $6,300.
Common amenities will include an outdoor pool, spa and sun terrace, complete with cabanas, a fire pit and outdoor grilling kitchens with pergolas and seating. The property also features a fitness club with an indoor/outdoor yoga studio; media room with oversized TV with surround sound; a demonstration kitchen; Starbuck’s coffee bar; gaming arcade; business center and conference room; and a “bicycle kitchen” that will offer residents bicycle storage, supplies, tools and air pumps.
Also joining the topping off festivities was Daisy, an 80-lb. Newfoundland that will serve as the building’s official house dog: one of the more unusual amenities in recent Chicago multifamily development. Daisy will be available to residents looking for occasional canine companionship without the obligations of pet ownership.
