Meet Your Robot Coworker
The robots are here—and they're ready to work. Here’s how automation is helping multifamily teams work smarter.

Who’s your favorite robot?
Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons?
The Terminator?
A handsome and roguish Harrison Ford in Blade Runner? (Uh, spoiler alert from a 44-year-old movie. Sorry.)
Soon, it may be one that actually works in your multifamily community. (No word yet if it’ll look like a young Harrison Ford, but I always remain hopeful.) Robots in multifamily are still pretty rare. But as industry leaders are leaning into artificial intelligence and figuring out the best use cases in development, construction and property management, more and more robots are slipping into the mix. (Don’t worry—they were invited.)
Take, for example, Skanska’s DIDGE robots, which were used at one of the company’s construction sites to take photos and videos and collect data. This use of technology saved the team time.
“We don’t have a shortage of data,” Stewart Germain of Skanska USA Commercial Development told Associate Editor Matthew Kaufman for “How AI Is Reshaping Multifamily Construction.” “(We have) change orders, FRI logs, schedule durations, cost estimates. You name it, we’ve got the data.”
In addition to participating in the construction phase, these robots can perform administrative and analytical tasks around the community, which could help with staffing concerns in the future. Instead of the human team having to do these repetitive tasks, they can focus on higher-level projects.
What else are these robots doing for the industry? Check out Kaufman’s article for more information.
