Waterton rebranded this nearly 30-year-old apartment property just outside Washington, D.C., in Arlington, Va., with a focus on community and every person’s ownership of the revamped property’s privileges and services. The transit-oriented multifamily destination offers a pool deck with cabanas and various seating options, grilling stations and fire pits, as well as an updated community room featuring full kitchen capabilities, a 7,000-square-foot fitness center and a racquetball court.

The communal space, upgraded with a café area, also features individual work pods to accommodate remote workers and designated areas for collaborating and socializing. All communal zones at The Citizen have been reimagined to facilitate social interaction and communing with nature in a hospitality-like environment. In addition to updating units with new appliances, countertops, flooring and the like, Waterton upgraded the property to make it more tech-savvy, incorporating smart-home technology such as keyless entry and temperature control via smartphone.
