The firm was selected by Dete Development LLC to build the project on behalf of Whiteco Industries, the land owner of the memory care facility. The 33,760-square-foot, single-story building is located on a 9-acre site at 7900 Rhode Island St., adjacent to Interstate 65 and U.S. 30 in Merrillville, in northwest Indiana.

Merrillville Memory Care incorporates 48 units designed and constructed to maximize the comfort, safety and security of memory care patients. A welcoming entrance highlighted by a porte-cochère and high ceilings leads residents and guests into a soothing and comfortable environment. In addition to individual living spaces, amenity areas include a living room with a see-though fireplace, dining area with a full-service kitchen, activity center, relaxation room, spa and salon.  Two nurses stations support medical staff caring for residents in either wing of the building.

The wood frame residence features an  exterior incorporating fiber-cement siding, masonry and imitation stone accents. An enclosed central courtyard offering generous patio space serves as the property’s focal point. The outdoor recreation area includes seating areas, as well as a custom artistic sculpture installation surrounded by walkways and landscaping.

“Our project team successfully drew upon our many years of experience in the construction of memory care facilities to deliver this first-class environment that supports the needs and well-being of individuals suffering from memory loss,” Raday said in prepared remarks.  “I’m confident that the final product provides a place of comfort and security for the residents of Merrillville Memory Care and their loved-ones.”

McShane Construction also completed the property’s landscaping, sidewalks and on-site parking. Architectural services were provided by Architectural Design Consultants (ADCI).

Earlier this year, McShane also announced the completion of the 260-unit Springs of Waukee Apartments, a multifamily development located in Waukee, Iowa.
