Luxury Senior Community Underway Near Los Angeles
The first senior facility in Warner Center will include independent living, assisted living and memory care units.
South Bay Partners, in partnership with LAMB Properties and Columbia Pacific Advisors, has started construction on The Variel, a 336-unit luxury senior community in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Class A mid-rise building is slated for completion in the winter of 2021. This is South Bay’s first foray into Southern California.
The property, located at 6233 Variel Ave., will be the first senior community built within the Warner Center master-planned neighborhood. The eight-story, L-shaped building will encompass 215 independent living units, 94 assisted living units and 27 memory care units. Amenities will include an indoor therapy pool and spa, a golf simulator, two theaters, an art studio, a conservatory and a dog wash, as well as indoor/outdoor dining venues.
West Bay Senior Living will manage The Variel, which was designed by VTBS Architects and Rodrigo Vargas Design. W.E. O’Neil Construction is the general contractor. According to its developer, the community will have roughly 170 employees.
The 3-acre development site is close to Westfield Topanga & The Village, Warner Tennis Center and Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Medical Center, a 264-bed hospital. Downtown Los Angeles is 25 miles southeast via U.S. Route 101.
South Bay Partners also teamed with LAMB Properties for the construction of a 250-unit luxury senior community in Upper Dublin, Pa. The developer broke ground on the project last February and completion is expected in spring 2021.
