LaTerra Assigns Multifamily Veteran as First COO

Multi-housing expert Howard Heitner joins Los Angeles-headquartered LaTerra Development as chief operations officer.

Los Angeles—LaTerra Development, a Beverly Hills-based investor and developer of urban mixed-use infill properties, announced the recruitment of multi-housing veteran Howard Heitner as first chief operating officer.

Heitner’s track record includes decades of multifamily expertise. Most recently, he worked for five years as president of JRK Residential America, a company that holds a portfolio in excess of 20,000 units spread over 100 properties in 24 states.

Before this, Heitner worked for giant SunAmerica, where he served for 10 years as COO of the public company’s affordable housing subsidiary. Prior to his first COO position, he invested nearly 20 years practicing law with O’Melveny & Myers LLP, the last half of which he spent as a partner in its real estate department.

Heitner holds a BA in economics from Bucknell University, as well as a JD and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

LaTerra Development is a privately owned development and investment company that focuses on mixed-use infill projects. LaTerra currently holds a portfolio of more than 20 development projects in Southern California.
