Savannah, Ga.—Jamestown has awarded Greystar Student Living the management of One West Victory Apartments, a new student housing development under way in Savannah, Ga. The property has a back story: it once served as the old Savannah Ice Factory at One West Victory Drive on the corner of Bull Street.

Jamestown is renovating the two late 19th-century buildings and constructing one new building to develop the property into a fully furnished 114-unit property with 338 beds. It will offer one-, two- and four-bedroom units, and it will feature an art studio, media center, study areas, fitness center, and an outdoor patio and courtyard space.

The development, designed by HKS Architects, will also include sustainable elements, such as low-flow water fixtures, high performance windows and energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems. One West Victory Apartments will also feature recycling centers, dedicated parking for bicycles and a bike servicing station for residents. It is targeting LEED Silver.

The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2014, to coincide with the beginning of the 2014-2015 academic year. Originally, plans for the site called for a high-end condo redevelopment using the older structures, but that fell through because of the economy, and later Jamestown acquired the property.

One West Victory is located near Savannah College of Art & Design, which currently has an enrollment of more than 10,000. The property is also just outside the historic district of Savannah and is adjacent to Starland Dairy, which itself is an older property put to a new use as a community arts space.
