San Diego, Calif.–Novi Industries Inc. has unveiled a new prefabricated bathroom system that can bring a consistent, high-quality product to any residential, student housing, healthcare or hotel development project. The system, called InoviaPods, is not your standard cookie cutter prefab approach. Novi designers work with architects from the get go in a flexible manufacturing process that provides for the delivery of customizable pods that meet specific space and design criteria.

The use of InoviaPods can help shorten construction times by as much as 20 percent according to Novi. The pods are built off site and delivered as a ‘plug and play’ unit ready for connection to plumping, electrical and HVAC hook-ups that can easily be inspected. The pods themselves are pre-inspected before arriving at the construction site. This means that on-site inspectors save time by only having to check the connections between the unit and traditional construction. Light-gauge steel framing and magnesium-oxide board sheathing help make the pods fire proof and resistant to flooding, pests, mold and mildew, and earthquakes.

The prefabricated system includes a number of green features as well. According to Novi, InoviaPods can contribute towards LEED certification through a 5 pronged approach. The pods help divert construction materials from disposal as the off-site manufacturing creates zero waste towards the project’s job site. The pods are reusable, and can be moved to another position within the project or another job-site all together. The materials used have high recycled content–cold formed metal framing in the pods is 17 percent pre-consumer and 37 percent post-consumer recycled; the tile is 60 percent pre-consumer and 3 percent post-consumer recycled. WaterSense plumbing fixtures are certified by the EPA for increased efficiency, and dual-flush toilettes and high-efficiency showers are standard in all bathroom pod designs. Lastly, the VOC content in all construction materials is limited.
