Multifamily real estate was a second career for Asia Capital Real Estate Chief Operating Officer Melanie Gersper. After spending 13 years as a social worker and probation officer in various jurisdictions across Ohio, she moved to Georgia with her family, where her career took a whole new path. A small real estate company gave her a chance as a leasing agent and she’s never looked back. Now, she oversees on-site property management and other operations for roughly 7,000 Class B & C units across the country.

During this second episode of our “Mission Success: Women in Multifamily” monthly podcast series, Gersper admits that the main thing she learned in the past 12 months is that people want to do the right thing, even in the face of adversity. She discusses rent collections and strategies to work with residents and not against them as a property manager. Toward the end of the conversation with Senior Associate Editor Laura Calugar, she also reveals the best ways to stay ahead of the management game in 2021.
