Sydney, Australia—Construction on the Greenland Centre residential tower in the heart of Sydney’s commercial business district has begun.
Chinese developer Greenland Group has selected Brookfield Multiplex to build the upcoming 82-story skyscraper on the corner of Pitt and Bathurst streets, which entails an investment of approximately $605 million (AUD $800 million).
The new building at 115 Bathurst St., which will rise to more than 770 feet (235 meters) above the ground, will be the city’s tallest. The project, which has been designed by BVN Donovan Hill and Woods Bagot as an architectural tribute to the city, also marks Greenland’s first landmark tower in Sydney’s CBD. It will include 478 one-, two- and three-bedroom luxury apartments, a 172-room boutique hotel, nearly 3,000 square feet (275 square meters) of retail space, as well as 21,500 square feet (2,000 square meters) of floor space dedicated to a creative hub.
Upon completion, Greenland Centre will offer residents easy access to all modes of public transport, exclusive shopping, 5-star dining and the most prestigious schools and universities in Sydney. CBRE is marketing the new residences, most of which are already under contract. Just last month, one of the building’s six penthouses sold for over $7.5 million (AUD $10 million).
“For Brookfield Multiplex to be appointed to such an iconic new residential development is a considerable achievement for our team and we are excited to be a part of it. With our expertise in delivering complex high-rise apartment projects within busy CBD environments, we are confident we will deliver an outstanding project for Greenland,” David Ghannoum, regional managing director of New South Wales at Brookfield Multiplex, said.
Brookfield Multiplex has a significant residential construction and development experience, having delivered some of Sydney’s most exclusive and high quality towers including Lumiere, The Wharf, Woolloomooloo, Bennelong Centre and Manhattan Apartments.
