DOW Introduces ‘Next Generation’ Green Insulation

Environmentally friendly product line is produced without formaldehyde or volatile organic compounds.

DOW Building Solutions has released a new generation of its STYROFOAM brand extruded polystyrene foam insulation. The new product, with thickness of 1.5 inches or greater, will have a new 50-year thermal warranty.

A spokesperson for DOW has said that the 50-year warranty is a statement of the company’s trust in its new product, especially among the new building requirements concerning energy efficiency and thermal insulation. This next-generation product line wants to ensure a competitive edge regarding current marketplace expectations and levels of indoor comfort and energy savings.

The technology to produce the new STYROFOAM XPS Brand Insulation no longer involves the use of formaldehyde, nor does it contain volatile organic components. Adding to this, the ozone depletion potential is zero. The formulation has passed all fire and application testing and it has also received its U.S. ICC Evaluation Service Report ICC-ESR 2142.

The 50-year warranty applies to STYROFOAM XPS Brand Insulation products of 1.5 inches thick or greater produced after November 1, 2010, stipulating that it will retain 90 percent of its R-value for that time period. The STYROFOAM Brand Extruded Polystyrene Foam Insulation of 1 – 1.5 inches will extend its warranty period to 30 years, effectively doubling that of the previous product.
