Doster Construction Completes Baton Rouge Student Housing
The company added 44 units to the Retreat at Brightside Student Living community, which serves students of several area universities.
Doster Construction Co. has completed a 44-unit addition to the Retreat at Brightside Student Living in Baton Rouge, La., one of several Louisiana development projects recently delivered or under construction by the Birmingham, Ala.-based firm.
The 34,485-square-foot addition was built on an existing tennis court starting in fall 2017 for owner PPQ Northstar. The Architectural Studio was the architect.
Located at 2000 Brightside Drive near Louisiana State University, the owners also remodeled the existing development including upgrading bathrooms and adding granite counters, stainless steel appliances and hardwood-style floors. The pool, fitness center and clubhouse were also renovated. Units range from 646 to 1,085 square feet and offer one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. In addition to LSU, the community is near Southern University and A&M College and Baton Rouge Community College.
More in LA
Doster, which has completed more than 1,500 units of multifamily housing in the last year alone, has several other projects under construction in Louisiana, including the 144-unit Lakeside Villas II, also in Baton Rouge; the 272-unit Sawgrass Point in Gonzales; and the 272-unit Springs at Juban Crossing in Denham Springs.
“We have enjoyed working and delivering quality work for our clients here in Louisiana. With the demand that we are seeing for multifamily and student housing projects in not only Baton Rouge but throughout the state, is evident that there is growth here. We are very thankful for our clients and partnerships in Louisiana and look forward to continuing to build long-lasting relationships here,” Brandon Cummings, Doster multifamily business development manager, told Multi-Housing News.
In April, the firm finished construction of the 252-unit Springs at Country Club in Lake Charles, La., for developer Continental Properties. Located at 2130 Country Club Road, the two-story community has studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans ranging from 550 to 1,434 square feet. The apartment community is close to McNeese State University, Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and Lake Prien.
Doster is also working with Continental Properties on Springs at Hamburg, a 312-unit multifamily community in Lexington, Ky. Construction began in January at the 14-building development which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.
Other projects completed in the South include the Novel Bellevue Place mixed-use development in Nashville, Tenn., which has 337 garden-style apartments located on the 87-acre site of the former Bellevue Center Mall, and the Arbours at Tumblin Creek, a military veterans’ senior housing community in Gainesville, Fla. Doster was the general contractor on the project which offers 64 one-and two-bedroom apartments for adults 55 years and up.
