Deco Communities Redevelops Vegas Apartments Frequented by Rat Pack

Las Vegas—Cabana on Dumont, the redevelopment of the former Rainwalk Apartments in Las Vegas, has opened. It’s the first apartment outside of Arizona to be converted into Scottsdale-based Deco Communities’ “Cabana Modern Apartment Homes” brand of rental properties.

For decades, the Rainwalk Apartments on Dumont Street was a desirable residential location for a number of celebrities and entertainers, including various members of the Rat Pack (the property was called The Villas in those days of tuxes and martinis). According to Deco, the building still retains some of the original charm in both its mid-century modern design and in its large, two-story townhome units with stone fireplaces, functioning wet bars, swag lighting and large entertaining areas.

Over the last six months, the property has undergone a multi-million-dollar renovation involving the work of more than 60 architects, master landscapers, construction workers and interior designers. The property now boasts a hotel-style leasing center, refurbished laundry facilities known as “Sudzy’s,” secured bike storage area and new pool areas with colorful pool-side seating.

The goal of Deco Communities’ Cabana brand is to rehab infill properties into apartment properties in urban environments. Deco recently completed the rehab of two new Arizona properties, one in Phoenix, the other in Tempe, adding them to its existing portfolio.

Each of Cabana’s property is in an urban environment close to retail, public transportation and recreation. The firm eyes structures “with good bones” that would be otherwise torn down, and rehabilitates them into living spaces that appeals to young, urban professionals—who just happen to like living in walking distance of retail and transit. Cabana on Dumont has a Walk Score of 63, meaning some errands can be accomplished on foot.
