Clubhouse & Multifamily: Why You Need to Be an Early Adopter

The app is hot—and exclusive. Multifamily should get in on it. Here's why.

Have you joined Clubhouse yet? For those not in the know, this is a new, hot, audio-based app. It’s also only available for Apple users, and is currently invite only. (Which is, of course, making me want to score an exclusive invitation even more.)

But why join? Doesn’t this sound like a mishmash of podcasts, webinars, Ted Talks and that sleepover party in 8th grade that you weren’t invited to but Madison G., Jennifer and Madison C. all talked about incessantly during study hall?

Yes. That’s the point.

Podcasts are extremely popular. As of January 2021, there were 43 million podcast episodes. You’re probably listening to one now, aren’t you!

Webinars and Ted Talks allow people to get a lot of information, and even interact with the experts.

And Jennifer and the Madisons are just mean and I wouldn’t even want to go to their stupid sleepover anyway.

How hot is Clubhouse? Facebook is purportedly developing similar technology

And it’s not just individuals who are experimenting on the app. Big companies are already jumping in. For example, Burger King’s parent company Restaurant Brands International recently hosted a chat.

Now, multifamily has a reputation for being really slow to adapt to new technology. But now is the time to jump in. Clubhouse could be really useful for multifamily. In fact, it’s already catching on with residential real estate agents.

If your company has properties in multiple cities or states, you could use it to interact with other members of the team—going over events that worked well with residents, talking about new policies, using it as a town hall to go over recent leasing numbers and strategies going forward.

It could also provide an opportunity for property managers and markets to interact with residents or prospective residents. You can have regular group chats where you answer their questions or address any issues. Residents can be invited to speak to the group.

Of course, you can’t do anything unless you get an invite. Which just makes us want to join more.

Are you on Clubhouse? What do you think of it? What are some other ways multifamily members can utilize it? And, um, can you get me an invite? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Post your comments on our Facebook page or send a tweet to @MHNOnline or @jfiur
