Chicago-Area Assisted Living Community Gets New Building
The 156-unit luxury facility, located right across from Chicago Botanic Garden, opened its doors in 2014. A former memory care wing will be converted into assisted living units.
Skender has completed construction on the 40-unit memory care building of North Shore Place, a 156-unit luxury assisted living community in Northbrook, Ill. The development team also included design firm SAS Architects & Planners, civil engineering firm Manhard Consulting and structural engineering firm Bowman, Barrett & Associates. The owner, Senior Lifestyle, also assigned Skender to convert the former memory care wing into 32 assisted living units.
North Shore Place is the first construction project Skender completed for Senior Lifestyle in 2014. Located at 1000 Sunset Ridge Road, the assisted living community is just 2.7 miles from downtown Northbrook, right across from Chicago Botanic Garden. The 7.2-acre property is close to Interstate 94 and State Route 68, while O’Hare International Airport is within a 24-minute drive via Interstate 294.
The 175,000-square-foot, five-story main building features one- and two-bedroom apartments with 10 different types of floorplates. All units have full kitchens, granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances. Services include restaurant-style dining, personalized care plans and transportation. Also, clinical and nursing staff are available 24 hours per day.
The 37,500-square-foot, two-story memory care facility is the newest construction at the property. Aside from the above-mentioned amenities and services, memory care units have digital screens that cycle through photographs of family and friends to assist tenants with room identification. Other specific services include Care Innovations’ QuietCare and Electronic Medication Administration Record.
Skender is also part of the development team of an Illinois affordable senior housing project currently under construction. The property is 30 miles west of North Shore Place.
