Bernards broke ground on a new residence and dining hall at the University of La Verne in La Verne, Calif. The community will feature 396 beds, a dining hall, lounge, study spaces and outdoor patios. Steinberg Architects will work with the company to design the project.

University of La Verne is located at 1950 Third St., 30 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The university also has nine regional campuses that offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

The new residence will feature 114,970 square feet of space, of which 18,700-square-feet will consist of a dining hall, President’s dining room, and large social and recreation lounge. Common area amenities include study rooms, social lounges and a two-story living room at each floor.

Completion time

The new student housing and dining hall community will be the first project in the university’s newly approved Facilities & Technology Master Plan. The building is slated to open in August 2018 and will enclose the Student Life Quad and Plaza. Back in March, Bernards was appointed as the general contractor for Phase I of Park Fifth in downtown Los Angeles.
