West Hollywood, Calif.—AvalonBay Communities Inc., has teamed with architecture, planning and design firm MVE & Partners Inc., to develop the Avalon West Hollywood project, a mixed-use infill community in West Hollywood, Calif.
When completed, the three-acre site will consist of two market-rate apartment buildings and one income- and age-restricted 77-unit building, all designed in a sustainable, contemporary modern style to complement the urban character of the neighborhood.
“AvalonBay has always had as its purpose, the goal of enhancing the lives of our residents. Avalon West Hollywood is a perfect example of this philosophy in action,” Mark Janda, AvalonBay Communities’ VP, development, tells MHN. “Not only will this new development provide high quality housing for our residents, but we are also building a public plaza, affordable seniors housing and neighborhood-serving retail, all of which will to serve as a catalyst for building a stronger local community that will benefit our residents and the exciting neighborhood.”
Located at Poinsettia Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard, Avalon West Hollywood will offer a multi-generational urban lifestyle experience, conveying the spirit of the West Hollywood neighborhood. It will feature three individual buildings and 371 apartment units over subterranean garages, and the redeveloped property will include 32,300 square feet of retail space, including a 14,500 square-foot specialty market space.
“It’s in a great location and people are interested in a multi-generational urban lifestyle,”Jeff Larsen, principal of MVE & Partners, tells MHN. “The architectural character of Avalon West Hollywood truly celebrates the energy and vitality of Santa Monica Boulevard.”
Two of the buildings will be built to achieve LEED Silver certification, and the income- and age-restricted building will be built for LEED Gold certification.
Amenities at Avalon West Hollywood will consist of roof top decks offering city views, a community garden, outdoor bar and dining areas, a resort pool and spa, outdoor cabanas, recreation activity spaces, fitness centers and more.
According to Janda, by providing a combination of neighborhood-serving retail, public plazas, affordable housing and market-rate apartments, the community will place residents in close proximity to jobs, retail and entertainment, reducing the reliance on the automobile for the entire community.
The project is slated to break ground this spring with completion of Phase One slated for spring 2016 and Phase Two for fall of the same year.
