Wisconsin Community with Limited Common Areas Gets a Green Roof
Rouse Management has added an 800-square-foot green roof to its Parman Place community in Madison, Wis.
Madison, Wis.—Want to go green? Aim higher. Rouse Management, a Madison, Wis.-based real estate company has added an 800-square-foot green roof to its Parman Place community in Madison. LiveRoof LLC created the green roof, which is called the LiveRoof Hybrid Green Roof System. The architect for Parman Place, Knothe & Bruce Architects LLC, also designed the green roof.
The Parman Place community is a three-story, urban infill development with 18 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as 3,400 square feet of commercial space.
“Because of the relatively small size of the building, we had limited space for a common area. So, we went up to the roof,” Karen Rouse, general manager, Rouse Management, said in a press statement. “We wanted to create a green space with a green roof to establish a visual connection from the rooftop patio to the landscape of the University of Wisconsin Arboretum.”
The LiveRoof also makes for a visually appealing amenity for the residents. It provides a landscaped setting for a rooftop patio area, which features a pergola, outdoor tables and chairs and a grill.
The green roof is also proving to be easy to take care of.
“Because a LiveRoof green roof is installed with mature plants, maintenance is easy,” Dave MacKenzie, horticulturalist and president, LiveRoof, LLC, tells MHN. “Taking a walk out on the roof to pull any weeds you might spot every two weeks during the growing season is about what it takes. If a LiveRoof green roof is maintained regularly, just a handful of weeds is generally all you will find.”
Parman Place is located across from the University of Wisconsin Arboretum and within walking distance to Lake Wingra. Rouse Management and its partners in Parman Place LLC invested $2.9 million to convert the original underutilized site into a bustling rental community.
