WinnDevelopment Completes $19M Redevelopment for Seniors Housing Community

Boston—WinnDevelopment, a part of WinnCompanies, has announced the opening of Fitchburg Place, an affordable seniors housing community in Fitchburg, Mass. The company recently completed a $19 million redevelopment on the community.

Originally, the property was known as Groop Townview Towers, and was a public housing community that was owned by the Fitchburg Housing Authority. It was going to be converted into an assisted living facility in 2006; however, because of financial difficulties the plans were stalled, and later halted. WinnDevelopment acquired the property as part of a joint-venture partnership with the Fitchburg Housing Authority in 2011.

Fitchburg Place, which includes 42,528 square feet, will now be available for seniors who are 62 years old or older. Amenities include a resident lounge, laundry facilities, a wellness room, fitness center, computer space, library and patio area. There are also green elements, including Energy Star appliances and lighting and a high-efficiency HVAC system.

Additionally, the location is proving to be an asset for the community. Fitchburg Place is located near the MART (Montachusett Regional Transit Authority) transportation system, and is near local restaurants and shopping.

“The location of this new senior living community has the dual benefit of being within steps of Main Street’s shopping and services while also providing outdoor patios which are peacefully set back from, or high above, the activities of the street,” Gilbert Winn, managing principal, WinnDevelopment, tells MHN. “Furthermore, the hi-efficiency heating and cooling systems, in combination with the Co-Gen unit which preserves heat in the winter and cooling in the summer, will ensure that the utility expenses of the property remain affordable for years to come.”
