White Plains, N.Y.—Community Housing Innovations (CHI) recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Minerva Place Condominiums, a 14-unit workforce housing community and reportedly the city’s most energy-efficient residences.

Minerva Place Condominiums features White Plains’ first GeoExchange system for heating and cooling. Eight wells, each 360 feet deep, draw energy from the earth for heating and cooling, using a ground source heat pump system. In addition, the community offers energy-efficient construction techniques, insulation, plumbing and lighting upgrades that are projected to save each unit approximately 30 percent on energy costs.

Financing was provided by TD Bank, N.A. White Plains donated land and about $75,000 per unit in subsidy from its Affordable Housing Fund, and NYSERDA is projected to contribute about $55,000 toward the energy-saving improvements.

Designed by Warshauer Mellusi Warshauer Architects P.C., the building consist of 11 two-bedroom and three one-bedroom units.
