D.C. Landmark The Maples Moves to Phase Two of Development
Urban Pace has announced that the renovation of the Altus Realty Partners community, The Maples, a Federalist Era Washington, D.C., mansion that is being repurposed into condominiums, has moved into the second phase of development and has targeted completion for the project for the final quarter of 2014.

Washington, D.C.—Urban Pace LLC has announced that the renovation of the Altus Realty Partners community, The Maples, a Federalist Era Washington, D.C., mansion that is being repurposed into condominiums, has moved into the second phase of development and has targeted completion for the project for the final quarter of 2014.
The Capital Hill mansion features Georgian style architecture and was built between the years of 1795 and 1797 to serve as the home of British merchant William Mayne Duncanson. Other notable former owners of the property include national anthem author Francis Scott Key, former Senator John M. Clayton, and journalist Emily Edson Briggs. The property is located between the 600 blocks of D Street SE and South Carolina Avenue SE, less than a mile from the U.S. Capitol Building and U.S. Supreme Court.
“Rarely do Washingtonians have the opportunity to own a piece of an iconic American story,” says Urban Pace President Lynn Hackney. “The Maples is one of those few chances. That’s why we saw the first pre-sale release of town homes sell our in record time.”
The renovations have converted the property’s manor house, carriage house, school and stables into one-, two- and three-bedroom condos, six of which are duplexes, while brand new construction will bring four- and five-bedroom townhouses to the property.

The property, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 under its common name “Friendship House,” was acquired by Altus Realty in 2010. The company provides private and institutional investors in the Mid-Atlantic region with a concentrated focus on the Washington metropolitan real estate market. Urban Pace, which specializes in promoting urban real estate, was tapped to handle the marketing and selling of the residences at The Maples.
