Baton Rouge, La.—Retirement and hospitality will be blended in a new community that recently broke ground in the 118-acre Grove community in Baton Rouge. Developed as a joint venture between CR Properties and Cardinal Ventures, The Blake at The Grove will offer an independent, assisted living and memory care community surrounded by specialty shops and retail outlets, cafes and restaurants, a full-service hotel and a medical hub.

The joint venture presented its development plan to the local planning commission last year.

The community will also have landscaped seating and outdoor dining areas. The 8-mile Wards-Dawson Creek Park Pathway surrounds the community, as well as more than 44 acres of parks, pathways and landscaping.

The Blake at The Grove, which will be managed by Blake Management Group (BMG), will include 111 independent living and 67 assisted living floor plan options with studio, one-, and two-bedroom suites. Residents will have access to an adjoining Memory Care support facility focused on Alzheimer’s and dementia care, with an additional 35 suites specifically designed for a more home-like environment.

“Classic Southern design, calming colors and décor give this facility a resort-like feel,” said Harrison Young, principal at Cardinal Ventures. “The space has been designed with an abundance of windows to provide natural lighting and comfortable community spaces to encourage socialization. The extensive green space and outdoor amenities to encourage active living separates The Grove from any other mixed-use community in Baton Rouge.  It just made sense to incorporate The Blake facility in the incredible Grove development.”

Young also told Daily Report last year that his company was drawn to The Grove because of the mixed-use community within. “We try to locate in TNDs or mixed-use developments whenever we can,” he told Daily Report. “We like to be in vibrant, active environments to draw our residents out of the facility and into the community.”

The senior population (ages 65 and older) in the Baton Rouge metro area is more than 100,000.

The community blends hospitality and senior living through the services and amenities offered, including a 24-hour licensed nurse, wellness programs customized to residents, restaurant-style dining, housekeeping, scheduled transportation services, a swimming pool and indoor spa, media and card rooms, a fitness center, onsite chapel and a full-service salon.

“Our leaders have broad experience in both senior living and the hospitality industries, and we have designed amenities with this worry-free resort model in mind,” said Jeremy Cole, BMG CEO. “As a result, the lives of seniors are enriched by an environment that promotes healthy living and the highest level of service to our residents.”

The Blake at the Grove will be BMG’s third community and only full retirement campus in Louisiana. The community is expected to open in summer 2017 and a sales office will open onsite in fall 2016.
