U-Haul to Expand Central Valley Footprint
The four-story storage facility will be partially operational by the summer of 2024.
U-Haul has unveiled details of a new retail and self storage facility in Bakersfield, Calif. According to Kern County records, the company acquired the 11.5-acre building site in March for $2.2 million from Nelson Family Trust.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Greenfield will feature a total of 173,866 square feet. The project will be partially operational by the summer of 2024 and has a completion date set for 2025.
The storage facility will encompass a four-story building that will feature indoor climate-controlled units and a separate warehouse for portable moving containers. On-site amenities will include boxes and moving supplies, towing equipment, trailer and truck rentals, as well as professional hitch installation, among other features.
The property will take shape at 9407 S. H. St., in the Central Valley market, 7.3 miles from downtown Bakersfield, providing access to the Golden State Highway. The storage facility will be situated near residential communities and retail stores. Central Valley has a supply pipeline of 46 storage properties in various stages of development, set to add approximately 4 million rentable square feet to the existing inventory.
The Greenfield property will mark U-Haul’s fifth facility in Bakersfield. The company has a total footprint of 628,707 square feet in the Central Valley. In early 2023, U-Haul opened a newly completed storage facility in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. The property was a redevelopment project driven by the U-Haul Corporate Sustainability initiative. The company recently expanded its portfolio with the purchase of a recently completed Des Moines, Iowa, facility.
