Time Equities Unveils Artist-in-Residence Program for New NYC Tower

New York—Time Equities (TEI) has launched an artist-in-residence program for its 50 West development, a 64-story residential tower currently under construction in the Downtown neighborhood of Lower Manhattan. The program launch comes in conjunction with the announcement of the program’s first artist, Noa Charuvi.

Under the arrangement, which has been organized by TEI’s Art-in-Buildings program, all artists will receive an honorarium and studio space in exchange for a select number of completed works. Charuvi, an Israeli artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, will document the development of 50 West in the provided studio space, located adjacent to 50 West’s sales gallery at 40 Rector St. She has already started working on several paintings and is aiming to have a suite of works completed by the end of her term.

This month, Charuvi was joined by artist Hugo Bastidas, who will focus on the vertical growth of the building. The third artist, Paul Anthony Smith, plans to focus on construction workers and their craft. He will begin his residency on Oct. 1.

TEI CEO Francis Greenburger is no stranger to arts programs. Previously he established the Hudson Valley-based nonprofit arts organization Omi International Arts Center, which is known for its residency programs, education opportunities, and the Fields Sculpture Park. Also, Greenburger serves on the boards of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.

Completed artwork will be on display in the 50 West sales gallery during construction. Upon completion of the tower in 2016, the works will be installed in the common spaces of the development for residents to view.
