The LA Fires: How to Stay Safe and Help

A list of sources to track fire updates, find housing and rideshare resources and donate to support those that are being impacted.
Wildfires across the Los Angeles area are impacting thousands of people, animals, homes and businesses. Multi-Housing News has compiled a list of resources to help you track real-time updates on the fires and evacuation orders. If you’re considering making a financial contribution, we’ve included organizations that are providing services to those affected.
Real-time fire updates and evacuation orders
- CAL FIRE Incidents Page: Current information on active wildfires in L.A. and across California.
- Los Angeles Fire Department Alerts: Real-time alerts and updates on L.A. fires.
- Frontline Wildfire Defense Map: Live California wildfire map and tracker with updates on fire activity as well as valuable lists for preparing to evacuate.
- Watch Duty App: Nonprofit wildfire-tracking app providing live maps and alerts.
- Los Angeles County Emergency Alerts: Sign up for alerts from L.A. County.
- LAFD Fire Zone Map: Identifies fire zones and provides evacuation information as updated by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
- AirNow Fire and Smoke Map: Air quality information, including data on smoke from wildfires.
Housing, ridesharing and shelter resources
- Lyft: Riders in need can use the code CAFIRERELIEF25, valid for 2 rides up to $25 each ($50 total) for 500 riders until 1/15 at 11:59 p.m.
- Uber: Riders in need can use the promo code WILDFIRE25 in the wallet section of your Uber app to redeem a free Uber ride up to $40.
- Please note that service in fire-impacted areas has largely been suspended on rideshare platforms. These codes will only work in areas that are safe for drivers to operate in.
- American Red Cross: Operates evacuation centers and shares useful information about nearby shelters.
- Airbnb.org: In partnership with 211 LA, Airbnb is offering free temporary housing to displaced residents.
- Westwood Recreation Center: Evacuation and shelter center for those affected by the fires. Location linked.
Animal rescue and shelter resources
- Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control: Resources for pet and livestock evacuation.
- Animal Wellness Foundation: Assists with rescuing animals affected by the wildfires.
- Los Angeles Equestrian Center: Available for the evacuation of larger animals. Location linked.
Resources for additional support and donations
- Los Angeles Regional Food Bank: Fighting hunger in L.A.; supports those impacted by the fires.
- California Fire Foundation: Support for firefighters, their families and the communities they serve.
- World Central Kitchen: Provides meals to communities affected by the disaster.
- GoFundMe: A host of donation opportunities for the community at large, as well as individual families.
- Pasadena Humane Society: Donate to help animals displaced by the fires or in need of care.
- Baby2Baby: Disaster relief and emergency response for children.
- Canine Rescue Club: Foster a displaced animal or donate to aid in animal-related care.
